Montenegro parliamentary election kicks off with high turnout
[LIVE] Montenegro's pro-Western Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has secured 35% of votes in a tight and bitterly-contested parliamentary election, its worst result since the country won independence from Serbia 14 years ago. President Milo Djukanovic, who has personally led Montenegro for three decades since Yugoslavia was dismantled in the early 1990s, said Monday that the DPS would respect the election results but claimed that it was "the strongest party in Montenegro." Meanwhile, the leader of the pro-Serbian coalition, Zdravko Krivokapic, told supporters: "The regime has fallen."

The World Health Organization has labeled snakebites an epidemic, and reports that only half of the anti-venom needed globally is currently being produced. [TV+online package] The conservative Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party has consolidated its power in Croatia after winning 66 seats in the country's 151-seat parliament following Sunday's election. The party did not obtain an absolute majority and is expected to form a coalition government with smaller right-wing groups.

Kosovo's president Hashim Thaci 'indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity'
[LIVE] Kosovo's President Hashim Thaci and nine other former separatists have been indicted on war crimes charges. Thaci was a former commander with the Kosovo Liberation Army during the war for independence from Serbia between 1998 and 1999, which left more than 10,000 dead and 1,641 unaccounted for. He has been charged alongside Kadri Veseli, leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo and former parliament speaker, by a court set up to investigate crimes committed against ethnic Serbs during and after the conflict. A statement from a prosecutor of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers issued Wednesday said President Hashim Thaci and the others suspects “are criminally responsible for nearly 100 murders” of political opponents and Kosovar Albanian, Serb and Roma victims, AP reported Wednesday.

Serbia votes: All you need to know about Europe's first national election since COVID-19 lockdown
[LIVE plus PKG] Serbia's president declared a landslide victory for his right-wing party on Sunday night, in a controversial parliamentary election held amid concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and a boycott by much of the opposition. Aleksandar Vucic told jubilant supporters that his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) won over 60% of the vote, or some 190 seats in the 250-seat Serbian parliament. This would confirm estimates from polling agencies including IPSOS, which suggest the SNS -- which came to power in 2012 -- has cemented its grip. Vucic's allied Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) are predicted to get around 10% in second place, adding another 30 or so seats to the coalition. The initial unofficial results indicate that Serbia's parliament will have virtually no opposition and only three or four parties out of the 21 which were running.

Russia hits back as US takes lead in Kosovo-Serbia peace talks
[PKG] Russia has warned it would need to approve any solution reached in peace talks between Kosovo and Serbia in Washington later this month. The warning by Sergei Lavrov comes after the United States invited the two former wartime foes for a meeting at the White House on June 27. Lavrov noted that the European Union has the mandate to mediate in the dispute between Kosovo and Serbia. And he said that any agreement between Serbia and Kosovo must be approved by the UN Security Council, where Russia has veto power. "We will not allow attempts to rewrite the history of either the Second World War or the events that took place in the Balkans 25 years ago," Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

Denmark general election 2019: All you need to know to understand the vote
Denmark will head to the polls on Wednesday (June 5) to choose a new parliament — the country’s second election in a fortnight. Danes have only just voted in European Parliament elections, which saw a big drop in support for the far-right Danish People’s Party (DPP). They won in 2014 with 26.6% of the vote but that more than halved to 10.76% this time.
